We started summer break with a 5-day trip to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin with our friends the Donnenwerth's. What's great about traveling with the Donnenwerth's is that our kids all line up in age so nicely. Macy and Carter are both 7, Drew and Brynn are 4, and Maya and Lia are almost one. We both had babies that needed two naps a day. We both had big kids that could swim and in-between kids that need life jackets. The girls could play house and do each other's hair and the boys could jump from the bunk beds and act a little crazy. Not to mention that us grown-ups have the same sense of humor and outlook on mixing fun with parenthood.
We rented a cute townhouse in the village of Fontana. There was a pool right outside our door and Fontana beach a short walk away. We were in the pool multiple times a day, visited Fontana's playground, played at the beach, rode bikes on a path around the lake, ventured into town, and rented a pontoon boat. Amy and I planned all of our meals and so we ate in every night...and we ate WELL too! Mexican night with fajitas and margaritas, Italian night with lasagna and wine, grilled burgers and beers, and lots of snacks and desserts too.
The kids loved that all 4 got to share a kids' room with 2 sets of bunk beds, bean bag chairs and a TV. Both couples were able to have our own nice bedrooms and private baths. And we stayed up every night after the kids had gone to sleep to play games and watch movies. It was a great week away and I hope that we can visit the exact same spot again next year!
