That night the boys just ran around and played together. We even had a dance party in the living room in which Carter showed off some very creative moves. He gets them from his daddy. ;) The four older boys all slept in Davis' room, which surprisingly worked out well. Everyone stayed up late and slept in the next morning.
Saturday morning we decided to load up the family and head out for some tubing on the Iowa River. Bennett and Brynn stayed behind with a babysitter, while the rest of us spent 3 hours floating down the river. Other than me having some serious steering problems (and eventually being tied to another tube) and Joe and Maddox hitting some rapids and falling in, we had a great time. We stopped at a sandy area for some snacks and just relaxed on the tubes all morning long. And many of us had the sunburns to prove it.
That evening we let the boys run in the sprinkler and play with water guns. We also played in the backyard, ate ice cream, caught lighting bugs, did sparklers, and watched a little Alvin and Chipmunks. And, of course, we tried to get some photos of all 6 grandkids...easier said than done!
On Sunday morning, Joe, Holly and boys left for their family vacation in Ely. The rest of us went to church and then to Phelp's Park for some playtime and family photos. Here are my two favorites. The second isn't the best of Carter, but shows what it's like with a 3 1/2 year old and picture-taking. :)
After lunch and naps, Cary's parents decided to head back to Des Moines, leaving just our family and Tony and Kelly's to go to the pool. It was lots of fun to get in the water with the kids. Brynn loved being bounced in the water and Carter didn't want to take a break from the water slide. Afterwards, we went back to Tony and Kelly's for some Mabe's pizza. We just sat in the driveway while the kids rode bikes. Then we did more sparklers, made s'mores on the firepit and called it a night.
Monday was low-key and we just lounged around the house. The boys did a little fishing and we went on a bike ride/walk on the walking trail. We hit up the Co-op for lunch and then headed home. We even got home in time to make a quick family trip to the West Des Moines pool. It was a great weekend...three whole days of playing in the sun, being outdoors, and hanging out with family. Doesn't get any better than that! :)
