4:45 - 5:30 We played at the park down the street. It was 56 degrees and we couldn't waste warm weather like that. I didn't bring my camera along, so just imagine what the park looks like to a one year old. Numerous slides, muddy grass, swings, other kids...it was awesome!
5:30 - 5:45 As I started getting dinner ready, Carter played with the magnets on the fridge. He likes pushing the button on his fridge toy to hear the alphabet song. He also carries around the animal magnets and we later find them in the strangest places. One can only play with magnets for so long, so he quicly moved on to pots and pans. He loves to pull them all out and walk away.
5:45 - 6:00 Daddy's home! Cary always does fun, active things with Carter. Last night it was racing around the "circle" in our house on his police car. I think Carter could do that for an hour straight.
6:00 - 6:30 Dinner. Carter does a pretty good job of eating by himself so Cary and I can also enjoy dinner. As long as there is food on his high chair tray, he's content. Last night was taco night, as you can see.
6:30 - 7:00 Bathtime. We typically do baths every other night...or after an exceptionally messy dinner. Carter LOVES his baths!
7:00 - 7:20 Playtime in the basement. Our basement has become our main playroom and Carter has started to love being down there. First he opened the TV cabinet and pushed buttons on the DVD player. Then he closed the cabinet. And opened it again. Then he tried to shoot a basketball into the new hoop that is obviously way too high for Carter. The box isn't kidding when it says 3 years and older. Oops. After being lifted up to drop the ball through the hoop several times, he moved on to his car port. Once he put cars, a helicopter and about 5 blocks into the car elevator, he decided standing on the car port would be more productive. Later he tried to stand on his basketball, fell backwards and bumped his head. So after 5 minutes of tears, it was time to find a new room and new toys to play with.
7:20 - 7:45 Back upstairs. With American Idol playing in the background, Carter had a bedtime snack of chocolate chips cookies. That was followed by a sippy of milk, of course. Then he opened his toy cabinet and pulled out every book we own. We read several books until his short attention span decided that he was tired of books. He moved on to his ball popper - which he tried to stick EVERYTHING in...blocks, puzzle pieces, etc. Once the ball popper mysteriously stopped working, it was time to rough-house with dad again.
7:45 - 8:00 Bedtime. After brushing his teeth and reading a good-night story, it was time for bed. Most nights Carter will just lay down and not fuss, but I think he'd had too much fun on this particular night, and he didn't want to go to bed. After 5 minutes of crying, he was sound asleep.
8:00 - 10:00 Cary & Ali time! American Idol. Lost. Anything on Tivo. Bed.
Yes, our nightly routine is completely centered around our son. And I wouldn't have it any other way!
