In honor of Cary's 28th birthday and our 5th anniversary, we had big plans for the weekend! We had hotel reservations in Madison, Wisconsin and planned to go to several movies, watch the Michigan vs. Wisconsin football game, eat at numerous restaurants, go to the Farmer's Market, and do some Christmas shopping. Our plans came crashing down when Carter had a temperature of 102 on Wednesday and Thursday. With the fear of H1N1 in the back of our minds, we decided to cancel our weekend getaway and stay in Des Moines with our sick boy.
By late Friday morning, Carter was acting a little better and his temp had gone down. So after some serious debating on what to do, we finally decided to let Cary's mom and dad keep Carter so Cary and I could enjoy all that Des Moines had to offer. From 11:00am to midnight, here's what we did:
-ate lunch at Granite City and had a cocktail
-went to the movie 2012
-split up at the mall and had 30 minutes to buy something for the other person (Cary bought me some really cute gray flats and I bought him two shirts at Fossil.)
-walked through the shops in the East Village
-had a drink at All-Play
-went to Django for a great dinner
-freshened up at home and Cary opened his birthday presents
-went to the Funny Bone Comedy Club
We woke up Saturday morning and were so glad that our little boy was only 5 minutes away. We played with Carter until my mom arrived at 10:45 to watch him for the afternoon. Since Saturday was Cary's actual birthday and my parents had been planning to keep Carter all day anyway, we decided to leave him with my mom and go watch the Michigan football game at Buffalo Wild Wings. Cary's friend Drew joined us, so I snuck out to do a little Christmas shopping. Then we went to the movie The Box, had a quick dinner at Panera, and were home by 7:30...just enough time to snuggle with our almost-healthy boy and put him to bed.
Although it wasn't exactly the weekend we had planned, we had a great time. We were able to spend so much time together, but also had the chance to be with Carter too. In the 5 years that we've been married, Carter's been the center of the last two. So it was really the perfect way to celebrate 5 years of wedded bliss!
