Halloween 2009

For Halloween this year, Carter was a train engineer...complete with his striped overalls, red hankerchief, and train hat. He looked so cute that I could hardly stand it! But the trick-or-treating experience didn't go quite as planned. First of all, the weather was really crummy. It was cool and windy all day, but just as trick-or-treat time hit, the sprinkles started falling. To avoid the rain, we decided to skip the homes on our street and go straight to Cary's parents'. The minute we pulled in the driveway, our sweet little train engineer turned into a monster! He was crying, throwing fits, whining, kicking, and just being obnoxious. And this did not put Carter's mama in a very good mood. Bobbi had soup and salad waiting for us - so that was a total bonus - AND we got to see Joey and Maddox in their cute costumes (Wolverine and a Michigan football player). Other than that, our short time there was a disaster. We tried to get a good picture of Joey, Maddox and Carter with no success. Joey and Maddox were both so cute and smiled so big...and then there was Carter...crying hysterically. We tried the upstairs couch, sitting the boys on the pool table, and the toy room. Nothing. While in the toy room, Joey and Maddox got into a little squabble and Maddox started to cry. And so here are the best pictures I have from the night.



After trying with no success to cheer up our crabby boy, we decided to just leave. You know, to prove a point to our almost 2-year-old, although I'm quite sure no lesson was learned. Oh well...at least we tried. So then we headed to Uncle Kyle's. Kyle had candy waiting and was happy to see us. And finally we were able to get a picture of Carter not crying, and even a little family one too! (Notice the Skittle in Carter's mouth...yes we bribed him with candy, so what?!?!?)


Then we made our way to my parents' home in Guthrie Center. My niece was there and was dressed as Abby Cadabby. (She did change into her red cape and pretended she was Super Kate too. Double the costume = double the fun!) Since my mom is a teacher, she always has a ton of kids come to their house, so Carter and Katelyn got to help her hand out treats. After playing with my cousin Kelly's kids and chasing Katelyn around the house for awhile, the little train engineer finally konked out.

Halloween 2009 wasn't exactly what I expected, but I'd say it was a success!
