Our Visit to LaCrosse

Last weekend we packed up the car and drove to LaCrosse, Wisconsin to visit our friends the Donnenwerth's. They've had an awful lot of changes in the past few months...Mike graduated from Podiatry school, they moved to LaCrosse for Mike's residency, they had their second child, Drew Michael, and in just a few weeks, their daughter Macy will turn 3. We have been friends with the Donnenwerth's since college and have watched each other's families change and grow. And so, although we were so happy for them to make a move that worked best for their family, we were sad to see them move away from Des Moines. We wanted to be sure to get up there to visit them, meet Baby Drew, and see their new stomping grounds before summer was over. Our other Des Moines friends, the Murphy's, went too and so Carter had two awesome playmates!

On Friday night, we got in around 9:00. Just enough time for the kids to have a snack, Macy to open some birthday presents, and Drew to get some new clothes and toys from his brand new friends.

On Saturday morning we had breakfast at their house, and sat around drinking coffee, watching the kids play, and snuggling with Drew. Then we went to the top of a really high bluff (aka mountain) to see a whole new view of LaCrosse. Here are our kiddos cheesing it up for the camera.

And a group shot....

Sweet Baby Drew looks just like his mama!

After lunch downtown, we went back to their place for naps for the kids and a little down-time, while the boys hit up a local pub for pool and a few beers. We then played in the yard, ordered pizza and chatted until it was time to visit the ice cream shop. Afterwards, we walked down by the river. This area was so cool. You could watch boats go down the Mississippi and listen to live music and let the kids just run around.

It was a great weekend...low-key and relaxing. And it was even better to spend time with some wonderful friends. Thanks, guys! Can't wait to come back! :)
