Weekend in Decorah

We went to Decorah last weekend to visit Tony, Kelly and the boys. The trips up there are always relaxing....little on the agenda, lots of time spent outdoors, quality time with the kids, afternoon naps, and plenty of great food! This weekend was no different!
Cary was able to leave work a little early on Friday, so we got into town around 6:00. We had dinner, let the kids play, and then went for a walk on a cool trail south of town. After breakfast on Saturday morning, Cary and Tony went on a bike ride while Kelly and I stayed with the kids. Then, once Bennett's babysitter arrived, the rest of the gang headed for the Upper Iowa River for a tubing expedition. It was just like the lazy river at the swimming pool, only it actually took place on the river. I was a little remedial with guiding my tube, so I often ended up in the brush or completely stopped in the shallow areas. Carter rode on a tube with Cary and was a little hesitant at first. But as the time went on, he was splashing in the water and loving every minute. It was such a relaxing 2 hours and we hope we get to do it again next summer!

Then after lunch at Tony and Kelly's and afternoon naps for all, we hit up the local pool. There was a fun waterslide there that Carter did not want to go on. Cary literally had to carry him screaming the whole way to the top. But, not surprisingly, Carter LOVED it. I think he went down that slide at least 12 times that afternoon.

Then it was Mabe's pizza for dinner, baths for the kids, and a trip to the Whippy Dip ice cream shop. On Sunday morning, we went to early church, went back to their house for breakfast, and the kids played while Cary and Tony went on another long bike ride. We made a quick trip to the playground, had lunch and then hit the road. I could always use another day up there!

It was such a fun weekend and we especially loved spending time with Davis and Bennett. Davis and Carter played great together and Bennett was right in the middle of the action too. These boys are all growing up too quickly!! Can't wait for our next trip back. Only this time, we will have 2 carseats in the back of the car! Yikes! :)
