Girls' Night In

Last Friday I got together with 6 of my closest college friends. We try to get together every few months, and it was time for the Des Moines girls to host. This weekend's theme was Super-Cheesey Slumber Party! With 3 of the 7 of us pregnant, we decided that a night in was more appealing than a night out. Perfect, if you ask me!

(Front: Steph, Rachel, Laina & Amy. Back: Emily, me & Angie)

We started the afternoon at Angie's chiropractic office in West Des Moines. Angie has two massage therapists that work out of her office, so she arranged for them to give us each a 30-minute massage. We munched on great food and had aromatherapy foot baths while we waited for our turns on the massage tables. The massage was heavenly and the laughter and conversation were just as therapeutic!

After we were all nice and relaxed, we drove to Rachel's house for the rest of the evening. The "planning committee" had grand ideas of playing slumber party games and handing out a bunch of prizes for silly contests. Despite the plans, we ended up just talking most of the night....which was just as much fun! We had pizza and junk food and just laughed all evening long. Before the night was over, we played "Would You Rather" and "Apples to Apples" and made sure that everyone got some sort of cool prize...like slap bracelets, "smells like..." perfume, nail stickers, headbands, rings, a sun hat or a beach bag. And by midnight, in true Cinderella fashion, we were all sound asleep on a couch, loveseat, floor, or guest bed at Rachel's house.

Although we're at different places in our lives and live in different parts of Iowa, it has been so fun to catch up with this group of girls again. It's fun to hear about Emily's upcoming wedding, Angie's new business, Steph's life as a social worker, Rachel and Amy's pregnancies, Laina and Amy's kids, and everyone's life in general. And it's just as much fun to reminisce about our days at Simpson, wild nights at the frat houses, Tri Delta stories, and all that's happened since then. I can't wait for our next chance to get together!!
